Conserving Paper
We are striving to be more conscious of the amount of paper we consume as a school. When possible we would like to increase our technology use as well as our electronic communication. Please let me know phone numbers, cell numbers, and email addresses so I can use these forms of communication when appropriate.
Classroom Policy Information
Here is some information regarding how our classroom will function. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding these policies.
Classroom Rules
Our classroom uses a variation of the Whole Brain Teaching. There are 5 rules in Whole Brain Teaching. They are:
Rule 1: Follow directions quickly
Rule 2: Raise your hand for permission to speak
Rule 3: Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat
Rule 4: Make smart choices
Rule 5: Keep your dear teacher happy
What makes your dear teacher happy?
I am happy when there is an environment in my classroom everyone can learn in. I am happy when students are working hard and doing their personal best.

Classroom Management & Discipline
I will be using a clip chart system in my classroom. All
students will start on 'Ready to Learn' (green) at the beginning of each
day. Students can move up or down the chart throughout the day
depending on their behavior. At the end of each day students will record their color on their behavior log. Please initial at the bottom of the agenda each night signifying
that you have looked over the agenda.
Outstanding - Purple
Excellent Effort - Blue
Ready to Learn - Green
Think About It- Yellow
Teacher's Choice - Orange
Parent Contact - Red
The following actions will not be tolerated in my classroom and will result in a student clipping down on the behavior chart with a possibility of other consequences depending on the action.

Agenda
Each day, all assignments are written on the board. In addition, at least ten minutes are given toward the end of the day for students to copy this information in their agenda. Please review the agenda nightly with your child as I may write notes home occasionally in this space. Also, please feel free to use the agenda to write notes to me. You will need to purchase a school agenda in the office ($4).
The agenda is to be returned the next morning with a parent or guardian's signature or initials. Only sign for one day at a time. Please do not sign ahead.

Behavior Log
A behavior log will be kept in the students homework folder. This is where I will write if the student had an specific behavior concerns or demonstrated exceptional behavior. I expect for these to be signed on a weekly basis. They will be send home on Friday and need to be returned on Monday. By signing the behavior log you are saying you reviewed it with your child and discussed any concerns.
Homework
Students will be given homework each night Monday-Thursday. They will have homework occasionally on Fridays. Homework is expected to be completed nightly and returned to school the following day. Generally homework should not require more than 30-60 minutes. Please let me know if your child is regularly having more than one hour, because this indicates we need to talk. I believe that homework is a great way for students to practice what we have been learning at school.
Homework should come home in the Homework Folder to help keep the students organized. The folder should return with the student each school day. Each night students should read at least 20 min. |
Homework Box
I suggest making a homework box at home.
Often time when it is time for students to sit down and do homework there is time wasted because they have to wonder the house to find the appropriate materials needed to complete the homework. This is why I suggest creating a homework box. All the items in the homework box can ONLY be used for homework. They should not be used for weekend craft projects or anything of the sort. The reason is so that you always have what you need when you need it while doing your homework. It's really the only way this little system can be successful!

Assignment Information
If your student is absent from school, the student will have as many days to make up the missed work as they were gone. The student is responsible for coming to me and getting the missed work.
If a student receives a low grade on an assignment, I may allow them to redo the assignment. They simple need to come and discuss it with me. If they are willing to put in the effort - I will be more than happy to help them improve their grade. This may not be able to be done on all assignments.

Thursday Folder
Please purchase a Thursday Folder in the school office. The cost is $1. Students will bring this folder home every Thursday with graded papers, notes and information from the school office. If I find that I need to send home information on a different day of the week it will be sent in the homework folder. Please return Thursday folders on Friday.
Communication
Communication with my parents is very important to me. I want you to feel like the communication lines are always open. The quickest way to get into contact with me is email. My email address is [email protected]. You can also call the school and I will return your call as soon as I am able to. The number for E2 is (765) 641-2101. I will also be using the program Remind. (See information below) I strongly suggest if you have a cell phone with free texting to sign up for our classroom notifications. If you give me your email address I would be happy to use that as a form of communication as well.
Newsletter
I will create a classroom newsletter on a weekly basis. These newsletters can be found on this website in the Newsletter tab on the side. If you would like the newsletter emailed to you so there is not a chance ANY information being lost by the student please make sure you give me your email address. I will also be using Remind to send out text messages of important reminders and date information.
Remind
What is Remind and is it safe?
Remind is a one-way text messaging and email system. With Remind, all personal information remains completely confidential. Teachers will never see your phone number, nor will you have see theirs.
Do I need a smartphone to use Remind?
No, a smartphone is not necessary to send or receive Remind messages. However, you must be able to receive texts. If you cannot receive texts you can sign up to receive Remind notifications by email.
Can students or parents respond to texts?
At this time students and parents can not respond to the text notifications. However, there is a new chat option we can use now. You can respond if I send you a message using the chat. If you have any questions or comments over the notification that is sent out feel free to email me at [email protected]. I check this email at least 3 times a day over the course of the weekday - morning, after school, and evening. I also check it over the weekend but I do not guarantee as quick of a response.
